RACE DAY PREPAREDNESS

SAFETY & WEATHER POLICY

The safety of our participants, volunteers, spectators, staff and community partners is the top priority of the Columbus 10K.

Race officials continuously monitor weather and safety conditions before and during the event. When necessary, the race may be modified, delayed, suspended or canceled to protect participants and the community.

CONDITIONS WE MONITOR

Weather and public safety conditions can change quickly. Race officials may adjust event operations in response to:

Lightning or thunderstorms
Extreme heat or cold
High winds

Heavy rain, sleet, or snow
Reduced visibility
Other emergency or public safety situations

EVENT STATUS CONDITIONS

The Columbus 10K may use a color-based status system during race weekend to communicate changing conditions. Pay attention to announcements and instructions from event officials.

GREEN STATUS

Low-risk conditions. Event operations continue as planned.

YELLOW STATUS

Conditions may become hazardous. Proceed with caution and remain alert for changing conditions and race communications.

RED STATUS

Dangerous conditions exist. Participants may be instructed to seek shelter, and race operations may be suspended or stopped.

GREY STATUS

An extreme emergency or public safety situation exists. Leave the course and event area, do not return, and immediately follow instructions from race officials, law enforcement and emergency personnel.

WHEN CONDITIONS CHANGE

If conditions change during the event, follow instructions from race officials and watch for updates through the available communication channels.

Changing conditions may affect communication timing and course support.

PARTICIPANT RESPONSIBILITY

Participation in the Columbus 10K is voluntary. Participants are ultimately responsible for decisions regarding their personal safety and ability to continue.

Always follow instructions from race officials, law enforcement, medical personnel and emergency management officials.

As outlined in the participant waiver, cancellation, suspension or modification of the event due to weather, emergencies or other unforeseeable circumstances will not result in refunds or future race credits.
