RACE DAY SAFETY &
WEATHER POLICY

The safety of our participants, volunteers, spectators, staff, and community partners is the top priority of the Columbus 10K.
Race officials continuously monitor weather and safety conditions before and during the event. Depending on conditions, the race may be modified, delayed, suspended, or cancelled to protect participants and the community.
Potential hazards may include:

Lightning or thunderstorms

Extreme heat or cold
-
High winds
-
Heavy rain, sleet, or snow

Reduced visibility

Other emergency or public safety situations

Event Status Conditions
The Columbus 10K may use a color-based status system during race weekend to help communicate changing conditions.
​
Green Status
Low-risk conditions. Event operations continue as planned.
​
Yellow Status
Conditions may become hazardous. Participants should proceed with caution and remain alert for changing conditions and race communications.

Red Status
Dangerous conditions exist. Participants may be instructed to seek shelter, and race operations may be suspended or stopped.

Grey Status
An extreme emergency or public safety situation exists. Participants, volunteers, and spectators should immediately follow instructions from race officials, law enforcement, and emergency personnel.

If conditions change during the event, information may be communicated through:

Participants should understand that changing conditions may impact communication timing and course support.

Participant Responsibility
Participation in the Columbus 10K is voluntary, and participants are ultimately responsible for making decisions regarding their personal safety and ability to continue.

Participants should always follow instructions from race officials, law enforcement, medical personnel, and emergency management officials.
​
As outlined in the participant waiver, cancellation, suspension, or modification of the event due to weather, emergencies, or other unforeseeable circumstances will not result in refunds or future race credits.
